The Chosen Led by Pastor Powell
For the first time ever, the story of Jesus is being presented as a multi-season show, digging deeper into the backstories and context of the people and events of the gospels. Many of us who have watched this believe it is life-changing! This crowd funded media project is available free to the world–you can watch it on an app on your phone or online at PureFlix.
This small group will have two sections: one for men and another for couples–watch one of the 8 episodes of season one weekly–then connect for a time of discussion. The Couples Group will meet weekly Tuesday nights @ 7pm beginning February 9th in the large conference room and the Men’s Group will meet for zoom weekly Wednesday nights at 9pm beginning February 10th.
Please email or text Pastor Powell to sign on.

On Ash Wednesday, as we begin together with Christians around the world, our Lenten journey toward the cross culminating with Palm Sunday and Easter Day, it is a custom to reflect upon our sins and our need for forgiveness. To mark this reflection and commitment, the sign of the cross in ashes is made upon our foreheads.
This year our pastors will offer this service in two ways: A brief service will be livestreamed for you to worship in your homes, offices, or even your cars. Then, between the hours of 11am-12noon and 4:30-6pm, the pastors will be stationed at both the front steps of the sanctuary and in the Arendell Street parking lot for you to drive by, pause for prayer, and have the mark of the cross placed on your forehead. You will not need to leave your car and we encouraged all to be masked.
Let us begin a holy Lent as we reflect upon the sacrifice Jesus made for our sake upon the cross.
You are invited to join us for a brief Lenten worship time each Tuesday in Lent from 12:10-12:30. We will sing, pray, and hear a brief devotion. You may worship with us in the Sanctuary (spacing and masks encouraged) or via Livestream on our Facebook page. We are honored to have the following pastors to bring our weekly messages.
February 3rd Rev Vera Price, ELC Director and
Pastor of St James AME Zion, Vandemere
March 2nd Rev Sarah Williams, FUMC
March 9th Rev Dennis Goodwin, Pastor of Hoboken UMC
March 16th Rev Powell Osteen, FUMC
March 23rd Rev Michelle Lindsey, Retired Pastor,
Virginia Annual Conference
March 30th Pastor Patrick Whaley, FUMC
For the season of Lent 2021, our Sunday morning worship will focus on the great Christ Hymn recorded in Paul’s letter to the Philippians:
Have this mind in you that was also in Christ Jesus, who being in very nature God, did not count equality with God something to be grasped, rather he emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, begin made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even death on a cross! Therefore, God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
As disciples of Jesus we seek not only to “walk in his steps”, imitating his behavior, but to begin bearing more and more of his very nature – becoming more like Jesus in our very being. Come join us for worship starting February 21 as we focus on The Mind of Christ.
